What do you believe? What do you value?

The Second House is an Artha house. A house that belongs to the Wealth Trine. It incorporates the following features.

It is the house of kutumba.

The family. Specifically, the immediate family that we are born into.

It's the house of kula. Our tribe.

The house of possessions.

Ruled by Venus, it is the house of pleasures.

Of food.

Accumulated resources.

The house of our voice. And our values.

The Story Unfolds

From the individualistic nature of the first house, we expand into a sense of belonging.

We recognize the role that our first caretakers had in shaping us.

The Identity, in the First House, that sought to be distinct from others, now seeks to find people who share similar beliefs. We seek connection beyond just bloodlines. We find tribes that match our vibe.

The second house also highlights the importance of our voice. Are we being heard in our family? By our tribe?

Of Belonging And Belongings

If the First House stated "I Am". The Second states " I Have".

The ego now reaches beyond itself. Expands further from the body to focus on the resources that the body needs- Food.

Comfort. And pleasure.

Shifting

From the blazing fire of Dharma in the first house, we move into the earthy nature of Taurus.

Taurus is a repository of possessions. A store house. Treasure chest of valuables.

Accumulated wealth. Savings.

A granary. A pantry.

Afflictions to the second house can make you a hoarder.

Study of the second house can help you in understanding yourself.

Core Encore

The most important element of the second house is that it is the house of values.

If the first house was of beliefs. The next one is of values.

In a hurry we could think of them as the same thing. In a worse hurry we may think of neither.

That's a pity. To think so less of the things that shape our world.

Beliefs Vs Values

Beliefs are ideas we have of the world. Ideas of ourselves. And ideas of things beyond the world.

Values are the things we deem as worthy. They are what we our spend time, money and resources on.

Values are more tangible than beliefs.

Beliefs are from our core understanding of the world. And they in turn give rise to our values.

Beliefs are personal. Values are part of our shared reality.

Some Examples

If you believe in hard work. You will spend your time working hard.

If you believe in wei-wu-wei, you'll spend time connecting to the natural rhythm of things.

If you believe that only Science has all the answers. You'll spend time studying peer reviewed papers. Follow science commentators on Youtube. You'll call yourself rational. And you'll turn your nose up on those who view the world through beliefs.

If you are interested in Science. You'll probably question things. You'll want to know what things are. And why they are the way the are. You'll probably also know that 'rational' means to base your understanding on a belief. What you will seek to be is empirical instead.

If you believe in a higher power, you'll probably place high value on being religious. You'll perform rituals and prayers. You'll beseech the higher power to influence your life positively.

Or you could be spiritual. Choose to place your value on self-enquiry instead.

Beliefs are identity based. As a woman, some feel they need to work extra hard to prove a point. And to challenge an existing cultural belief.

When we believe someone, we place high value on what they say. But what creates the belief in them, in the first place?

We could go on about beliefs and values. The list is simply endless, because everything we do comes under our Beliefs and Values. However we could understand it in a better way for ourselves.

A Good Place To Start

Is to look at the obvious. What we do. And what do we have.

What are we spending our time on, on a day-to-day basis?

And what are the things we are surrounded with?

All these 'what' questions, form our Values.

And then to ask the 'why' questions....will give us an understanding of our beliefs.

Why are we doing this? Why did I buy that? Why am I online so much?

If Things Are Not Working...

The way you would like them to. Then it's probably a limiting belief holding you back.

The good news is beliefs are easier to change than values. Beliefs are flickering flames. They change with experience and new information.

Values are solid. They gain weight because of how much is invested in them. On a daily basis.

It's difficult to shake habits out.

However as Napoleon Hill says "What the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve". Conceive is to give birth. To a new idea, plan or mental image. To believe is to trust that idea.

And eventually it will get easier to change our values.

Our days can become more beautiful.

The Week Ahead

Mercury moves into Gemini. Joining Jupiter and Venus. All the free flowing communication you may have ached for, will probably come your way. Feel free to express yourself. And pay attention to others. Listen, because you never know where a good idea is hiding.

The Blue Moon on 31st. There's a sweetness here. A chance to connect with a friend. Or to show up as one.

Then we have the mega-maha transit of the year. Jupiter moving into Cancer. That will be a great relief. For sometime at least. He will start his ati-chari, fast movement from June 18th. Triggering karmic events. Jupiter is not called Guru just because he is always jolly. He can and does teach via karma as well. Overall it is a time to make shifts, toward better. And to embrace the changes that happen to you.

The Moon is free of the Snake's Belly. It's a free mind. To think, explore, conceive...believe...

The outer planets are aligning. With Rahu and Ketu in close degrees. It's a powerful time of change. This has the capacity to move tectonic plates of the earth as well. As humans we often resist change. But these are extra-ordinary times. Everything is pushing toward change. Why not use the energy to your advantage?

Next week, let's look at the Artha aspect as it relates to the Second House. Until then, I wish you a fantastic week ahead.
